In the midst of a global pandemic, the United Nations sees a retreat from international cooperation and a convergence of global crises. From climate change to economic uncertainty to systemic racism, these crises are compounded by the rise of disinformation worldwide. In response to this moment of disruption and uncertainty, the UN Global Compact launched a campaign from mid-August to mid-September calling on CEOs of their participant companies, of which CLN is one, to show their support for peace and security, human rights and sustainable development. Over 1,000 CEO’s from companies all over the world, including CLN, have answered the United Nations call to mark the 75th anniversary of the United Nations and the 20th anniversary of the UN Global Compact by signing a Statement from Business Leaders for Renewed Global Cooperation.
The spirit of multilateralism gave rise to the United Nations. This Statement demonstrates to the world that business heartily embraces that spirit. For the sake of our planet and its people, authentic, courageous leadership and global cooperation is needed urgently now, more than ever, and CLN will continue to support these aims as a committed member of the UN Global Compact.
