New developments of steel grades for wheels has not advance since the implementation of the Dual Phase grade in the last 90’s.
Though, remaining a challenge, new opportunities come out from the work carried out in Fatigue4Light and ToughSteel European project.
New methodologies for the fatigue assessment of the steel grades can significantly improve the quality and the design of MW wheels and help to select the right grades that, combined with surface treatments, can lead to the weight reduction of the component.
